General Stuff #461

Well this starts of with a pic circulating around Facebook that makes me chuckle quite a bit… The worse part is that I know people who’d probably do this… The type that would line tiles to the shape of the wall edge, not the perps etc.

Alienware have brought out an all new Desktop – the X51… and it’s a powerhouse of a machine, in fact if you want an over the counter Desktop, then I would seriously recommend these. Starting at an incredibly low £699 for Alienware X51 and rising to just under £1000 it comes packed with most high-end gaming things.. Like full Nvidia graphics, i3, i5 and i7 intel CPU’s, 1000gig HDD, and 8 gig of DDR3 ram… But that’s where the trouble starts.. You see while all components etc are designed as user upgradeable, the spec limits the Ram to 8gig… But for “Bang for Buck” off the shelf computing, it’d work in both the home gaming environment and serious office/professional use. And yep, it can sit vertically or horizontally and yes, the Alien head that lights up will turn,  so you can have the head the right way up as you need. But… you can still build the same or better yourself for the price. That said – it is a standard compact desktop unit (for Alienware - this is a near miracle) and these days, that is very welcome, not to mention near silent cooling. You will read of course – morons who call this “console” sized gaming – that’s because they don’t remember using a desktop… bless’em ;-)

It has not escaped some folks that I haven’t posted on Memphis and the overall US trip… don’t worry they’re coming! I know some of the things I have said in earlier posts have been a little harsh, but hey – if you smiled at any point then my job was done.

On that note, there are some upcoming changes to the blog… I, along with other blog cohorts have managed to work out a basic criteria for future posts and as such I will backward engineering these all the way back through the hundreds of already posted pieces.

Any way… In other news: Brother and sister actors Kate Hewlett  and Dave Hewlett  who came to fame as a duo in a Stargate Atlantis because of their perpetual and hilarious bickering, followed up with a global chat tour and the hilarious and exceptionally clever movie “A Dogs Breakfast”, have started doing small sketches over on David Hewlett’s “H0rrid” Youtube  account. So with that, I’ll leave you with a bit of inter sibling bashing

There’s good entertainment on the horizon

So next year sees the return and remake of the amazing TV Series ‘V’ with non other than Morena Baccarin as the sexy alien leader.  It’s good to see Morena doing so well after originally shooting to global fame through Joss Whedon’s Firefly. I’m just hoping the aliens dress just as sexy as they did LOL (such a guy!). Of course there’s no news on a second Firefly movie as yet, but the Brown Firefly castCoats among us I’m sure live in hope. That series brought several people to the fore. As Joss has always had an awesome eye for future talent. He brought us the likes of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan and Angel star and name sake David Boreanaz. This before we even start on such wonderful people as Summer Glau and the ever sharp witted Jewel Staite. All of whom have gone on to bigger and better things.
Smallville is still running and on its way back to our screens, a show that is oddly amazing with a small group of awesome females in it.

The Women of Sci-Fi Calendar…

Now, it’s beeShanks & Doign a while since actors and best buddies Chris Judge and Michael Shanks convinced Michael’s wife, actress Lexa Doig to partake of a great idea… So back in 2007, The Women of Sci-Fi Calendar was born. But what of it now?! Well the ladies of Smallville, Stargate, Atlantis and the brilliant Andromeda were in it – yet, internet searches reveal little these days.life

My favourite programme of late ‘Life’ is sure to return and an all new Stargate show ‘Stargate Universe’ is due to air later this year – which Joseph Mallozzi seems forever excited about… But let’s not forget the next Stargate movies that will start SGUproduction at some point in the next few months.

Iron Man two has been in production for a while and my guess is that it will be as least as good as the last one.
I haven’t heard anything about the show ‘The Mentalist’, but then, I’ve not really looked. I like the show, but there is something missing, maybe a little more personal interaction is needed, or the Jane character needs to have little more lavish life style – something, anything more than what there is. The show is brilliant because you feel you’ve only been sitting down 5 mins by the time the show ends.Torri Higginson

NCIS… I’m not sure what to make of it, it’s been great, funny and generally entertaining – but there are aspects that need addressing with the characters and, well, I don’t know – KHewlettagain, it’s either lost something or it’s always been missing – if nothing else it’s getting a little tired. I was really hoping that Torri Higginson was going to become part of the permanent cast. Torri is one of a handful of actresses I think have yet to given an effective vehicle to show off their best and true individual brilliance, Lexa Doig, Kate Hewlett are two more – but I guess it also comes down to getting the right part. But one actress I’m shocked that we don’t see much of is Laura Bertram.

Halfway through the week

 

The week half done and I’ve not being doing much other than looking for a new job – something a little more stable than agency work.

So, dilemmas, interest from other sites, putting my foot in it on Kate Hewlett’s blog, being ridiculed tojudge-hammer death by Fenny – oh it’s all been happening. So, lets start at the beginning..

tools-copySaturday morning started with a shock of hilarity that soon had SEC on the phone and checking my actions over. This was followed by firm effective guidance and leaving me with a smile on my face by the end of the day. All that was left was to rant about it – which I think you may have noticed. This I posted on Monday as it was a ‘timing’ thing.rocketboom-vid

 

The Wondering Brit made it’s way on to a Rocketboom news report – oh the height of this fame…. Actually it was a split second shot of my Facebook athatwrticle, so not such an awesome thing.

 

On top of this I was mentioned on the ‘That Woman’ blog as well. Something of a journalist in Lorain, Ohio, as British ex-pat, she says she enjoys reading this here blog – what a star :-)

 

Then I went and put my foot in it on the blog of actress Kate Hewlett, by anonymously saying ‘why do you only blog when you’re trying to promote something?’ I guess I must have been really tired to do sometkatehewletthing like that because she appears to be a lovely person and is very entertaining. However, what I was NOT expecting was for her to pick up on this… nor would I have expekate_scarf_smallcted her or anyone to blog about it – she did! Oh the shame of it!

Being (or trying to be) a good guy (not easy, when I’m a dark and sinister individual – lol), I held my hand up and pleaded guilty and apologised for my actions profusely.

If or not they were accepted, I just don’t know. UPDATE : apology accepted – yay!

So now all I have to do is find a small corner of my place to be almost famous in and I’ll be made, followed by a swift hanging.

 

I’ve been talking to Big Dog again this week and have been enjoying a good argument or two with him. Also he was showing me videos of this moronic student protest in the food hall of NYU – which frankly begged belief. It left me thinking – there is a reason US cops carry tasers, or more over – guns!! Really, I would have cooked their asses with tasers. LOL

The Hewlett’s are back

 

S40?!o the SGA series 5 start date is set for July 11 and the same wonderful bunch will be back doing the stuff they do – and, with a few newbies.

I was reading Dave Hewlett’s Blog over at dgeek and apparently we can look forward to his ‘work prolific’ sister Kate in the show again this season.

David is apparently suffering the effects of his 40th Birthday and as I know these effects well, some sympathy could have gone his way if we didn’t think he was actually older (lol sorry, I couldn’t resist).

 

Kate’s life seams to be a blur by all accounts and now has a spot on this years Toronto Fringe Festival in July. She also has a fascinating blog; Loft in Translation which makes for the very interesting reading for the life of a workaholic.

 

 Personally I don’t know how people can cope with these two siblings – it’s exhuating just to read about them lol

 

The Hewlett Wrecking Crew are coming over to Blighty in June to publically take chunks out of each in the normal way that only family can and answer questions / meet and greet with fans, so do check the respective websites for further informaton.

 

This video is quite old and is typical Amanda Tapping vs David Hewlett banter – but can anyone please explain how the hell he and can talk so quickly – from a guy who gets complaints of perpetual mumbling (that’s me by the way), this is horrific stuff.
