Friends in the 5.11 Tactical Community,

About a month ago our lead designer, Cory Nykoluk, came to me with the idea to have some fun on April 1st with a 5.11 Tactical Duty Kilt. “We’ve had a number of requests for kilts, so why not make one?” Cory had enlisted our creative services director, Matt Frederick and our director of ecommerce, Brian Rogers. I gave the project a green light with the commander’s guidance to make the “TDK” a true 5.11 product supported by a proper launch. Operational security was strict as only about 6 people inside 5.11 knew about this project. In fact, the only reference in meetings and e-mails was to “Project Caber.”
Our close friend Kyle Lamb, President of Viking Tactics, was briefed and signed on immediately. It turned out he was about to attend a Dropkick Murphys concert. Perfect timing as band member, Scruffy Wallace, is a kiltsman who plays bagpipes and the tin whistle in a VTAC T-shirt. The final piece needed was an athlete/first responder to demonstrate the mobility of the TDK. Matt Frederick called Roman, a veteran duty sheriff and Parkour athlete and we were rolling.

Last week, when we reviewed the video footage of Roman leaping walls in the TDK – it was clear – we had achieved the goal of making a Kilt true to the 5.11 brand. There was a collective “uh-oh, we only have one kilt in inventory!” On Saturday, March 31st, I called 5.11 Tactical founder, Dan Costa, to tip him off. His response: “Be ready, you’re going to sell some kilts!”

Indeed, the Tactical Duty Kilt launch was a success, so it seems the April Fool’s Day joke is on us! Your right the kilt would and still may be in my wardrobe in a heart beat, as for the phone, i dont think so. just bought a kindle e reader and am happy with that because it is a touch and there is only 2 buttons, the wifi feature is handy if you finish a book when you are sitting on the cludgy and you want another book to read, already done that. but the kilt must be the ultimate in outdoors wear all those pockets would come in handy,

In principle, I agree. There were few consequences for the Argentine invasion. Some young men died, who were apparently quickly forgotten, and the gov’t fell to be replaced by different faces with familiar conceits.

But on the subject of oil… How big is this Oil Field and why hasn’t Argentina tried drilling for it anyway?
With the horizontal drilling methods now employed, they’d still be able to drill outside of the exclusion zone if the oil field was that small.

Well said TWB - I totally agree- I guess they have their "freedom of speech" to thank and those that gave their all so they could spout their rubbish rhetoric.... and you know this comes down to "OIL" As for "Proclamation Penn" In March 2010 he called for the arrest of those referring to Hugo Chavez of Venezuela as a dictator Ahhhhhhhhh I guess it is OK calling for the arrest of people exercising their freedom of speech- especially when in February 2009 he stated ( supporting Gay marriage ) "We've got to have equal rights for everyone!" ( I guess except those that disagree with him, then they should come under the jack boot of censorship and arrest.. In February 2012, he stood beside Hugo Chavez while Venezuela supported the Syrian government during the 2011–2012 Syrian uprising. The man is the "king of sound bite proclamation " in order to see his name in the media........

As a teacher at a school just a few miles from the Dachau memorial site, it pains me no end to see such useful idiots fighting over each other to do the most service to the fascist cause. Morrissey would have found his words perfectly at home here in Munich 73 years ago.

Indeed, their only support from the UK comes in the form of Defence. They plan to take over the defence themselves once oil revenue starts coming in.
They have their own economy, taxes and healthcare, so defence is the very last thing.
They’ll still wish to remain loyal to the Crown, but then once the oil revenue comes into play – they’ll soon become a very wealthy little entity, the like of which we see elsewhere.

I’m a little gobsmacked that Argentina hasn’t actually tried to buy them out i.e. turn up and offer each person something crazy like £10m cash to give it up and leave. At least they’d find it hard to turn down, or maybe they have – I don’t know.
But alas, with the possibility of vast oil revenues and a future of tax free living – we could be looking at a Falkland Islands of billionaires within 15 years.

It’s all very well saying that the Islanders should be 100% independant, but the simple fact is, right now, they can’t be.
They are mostly self governing, and self funding, but do not have the finances or resources to defend themselves.

The Islands Government and Islanders welcome the connection with the UK.

One day they may well be in that position, and if they want to be 100% independant, then I am sure the UK will pull away from them, but until then, the UK will support them, and defend them.

Have now watched the full length version of this video, and cannot help comming down on the side of the father, being a father of three and a grandfather,( yes i know i dont look old enough,) i have often felt like doing something similar, but with hammers and other assorted blunt objects, well done that man. Not sure on the Canadian situation, I’m aware the Queen disbanded the Govt a year or two back, but thought for the most part Canada is free to go her own way as she likes. (and for the most part has)
Most laws (while listed under the crown) are totally different in Canada.

Though I gotta say – I’m not liking this C-11 business at all. That bill sounds like a bomb is gonna be used when a scalpel is needed.

As for the latest on the Falklands,well, the complaints and accusations regarding militarization according to Argentina and Sean Penn are simply not true – it;s the same as it has been for over 20 years.
Less in fact, we don’t have the money these days and happen to be (like Canada) fighting wars elsewhere.

LOL well do feel free to do so. I have had a mix of hilarity and hard work putting them together. I just can’t stop thinking up weird and wonderful and of course rude sayings to add
Still not sure on the colours etc and how big to make the blog logo.On the mug with bollocks on both sides I went with a fuller but waaayyyyy smaller logo in the centre of the mug and I personally think it works better. The downside is of course, i’d have to redo all the artwork.
To be honest I only want 4 or 5 slogans and offer them in different colour options so people can collect a set if they so wanted and they’d all be different.

But hey, ideas and especially opinions are very welcome.

After improving his English, he should perhaps look into the fact that just because some lunatic in the Casa Rosada is throwing out this issue to divert attention from the catastrophic government she is enacting, just as the Junta did in 1982 (with humiliating results, by the way), it does not mean the island “belongs” to Argentina, or even Britain. No one except UNASUL takes UNASUL seriously, so I am loathe to think anything but the islanders’ choice, whatever it may be, is the only recognizable one.

No country “owns” the Islands… it is owned by it’s inhabitants… It was never “Stolen” and the only claim that it is on the same continental shelf is kinda hilarious.
When the Islanders state they want to be independent, Argentinian, Chilean, Brazilian or even Russian – then they will be.
But while they wish to be British, Great Britain will honour the protection they ask for.

I wouldn’t feel shamed as most folks only see and think of the front end of a polished act, rarely does anyone think of or is encouraged, let alone know who supplies and sets up their gear for them.

Argentina should cut their losses with this one, and take in the considerations of those that actually live there. Britain settled the Falklands in the first place, and the locals want it to remain British.

As a contrast, Saint Pierre and Miquelon is French yet is next to Newfoundland, Canada. Canada does not go around making issues about it…

OK so I am getting old but I remember we emigrated to Canada in 1956 on a ship a couple of years later 58 ….mum and I went back to England by ship from Halifax stayed for about 4 months I think but I remember flying back into Canada with my grandmother and mother and a woman who had smuggled a hedgehog on board and my grandmother throwing a fit because she saw the woman with it in the middle of the flight and insisted it be locked up as ” her words” we are all in danger the thing could crawl up the pilots trouser leg…. ( death by hedgehog) ( there was hardly anyone on the plane I was allowed to play at the rear because of all the empty seats

She also told the stewardess the tea was like piddle – sigh . I remember a stewardess giving me little model ariplanes to amuse me….it was a propeller aircraft I remember that , took 14 hours we flew from London to Gander and then to Montreal … Of course there were restrictions on how much cash you could take out and bring into the country and my grandmother stuffed my stocking cap hat with her money to get through customs and told me you be quiet and look tired …..you don’t forget your first flight and mine was memorable

A belated thank you for this post , incredibly well-written and you almost sound like you like me . However I would be remiss in my usual ways by not pointing out one thing to be clarified (ignoring the spelling and grammar, lol)–it’s a 34 hour restart rather than 35. Yes, I agree with the hourly rate with the elog business rather than mileage and contrary to popular opinion, the electronic logs are NOT safer!!!!!!!! I found myself far more tired & stressed than I was prior because I was constantly having to “chase” the logbook instead of being able to hold to my normal sleep patterns.

L, I was actually thru Ohio twice on my last run up to Rochester, must say the 65mph speed limit (which I still couldn’t do because my truck did 64 max with the cruise control) makes the state much more pleasant to drive through.

TWB, thank you again for this and all the “shut up and get the job done” messages. Once I get to blogging again, I’m gonna link to this in mine.

Joanne, while there have been so many aviation firsts since 1783, so many of which capture the imagination.
One that truly stands out to me personally, is the setting up of the first Air Accident Investigation department because of the De Havilland Comet.
While this effectively killed the UK passenger aircraft industry, it eventually found the science of fatigue in pressurised aircraft – something that until that time was totally unknown…
The result was and still is fundamental in modern aircraft design toddy

Ahhhh, well most stuff is rubbish out there… the important thing is to know what is either good or beneficial and what’s not going to take your personal info and sell it to the highest bidder…

Hearsay, the “Latest Thing” are all very well and good etc… but “what do you need and what is bollocks?” are the real questions.

Well you’re in luck, I wrote a short book on the subject after being pushed by Martha Lane Fox to do so… sadly no one wants to publish it because it turns out that most publishers these days have their heads totally up their respective asses and this really was a book designed for print and not electronic online sale (as it negates that actual point).

I will however send you a pdf version by email in the next couple of days

Well I met TWB through the blogs – blogs I can handle and really enjoy – and since I update my blog of the moment every 36 to 48 hours with things from this poor brain of mine the ones that really want to know me and what I am doing just have to check in..I don’t use the fb twit thing on my blog – I get pleanty of notoriety without it

.of course my words on or off the deck aren’t limited ( that takes me back to the days I wrote a column and get it said within X amount of space and words… hated that …… .

I do like the phone though as ATT will attest…. there is something about hearing a voice …..SKYPE I could really use a lesson… but since I am usually in various stages of pajamas I hestitate to each his own but until my fb buddies have more important things on their minds besides the myriad of “cat posters” being clever pussy’s ( today’s topic) I KNOW I should get a better class of “friends” but you wouldn’t belive the people who are the “movers and shakers” on my list…worrying actually ;( I will pass getting more involved – just being an old fart I guess…..

No, the misconception of twitter is mainly media born due to the fact it is more effective than the media. 140 characters are a thing of the past with Tweet deck.
In reality it is a live conversation with everyone you know and others you’d like to know and a real-time live information source for real things around you.
It’s simple, you use it or take/leave it – but do learn to use it. It really is what the internet is about; real information in realtime. If you connected your blog post notifications to it – it tells everyone you’ve posted a new article etc. Something I personally find very useful.

I’ve made a lot of friends through it too. Met a lot of people I wouldn’t have who have for the most part (rightly or wrongly) enriched my life considerably.
Those people include people on my following list and several I don’t actually follow.

Besides, if you ever feel a little bored, there is something always happening on there.

Now there is a slight update here… We didn’t find any awesome places to eat and seeing as this blogs friend and global traveller Dom Joly was out of the UK on a monster hunt (for a new book), I didn’t wish to burden him with a restaurant request again… (he really does know ALL the best places in the world)
But true to Dom’s infinite knowledge on all things of this nature when he learned of my travel to DC, he tweeted over “You should have asked – this is the place to go – “Old Ebbitt Grill”…

Hi Loraine,

I’m on Metronidazol and Erythromycin together.
Metronidazol normally kills this dead without killing all the good bacteria – so no catching colds etc after…
But while I’ve had a lot of these due to the amount I grind my teeth – this sucker has been, well, not the most painful – but generally it’s been the most awful and ill feeling
Pain went the moment I started the drugs on Sunday, facial swelling now dropping away quickly – see Dentist Thurs

Oh dear having gone through what you are going through and finally going under the knife for treatment back in December ( and one day I will write how there are degrees of dentists even in the same office) I would ask how long you have been on the antibiotics and which ones it may take up to 36 hours to get some relief ( the pain will go away but the infection will still be there I was told in my case 10 days before the infection is cleared…and then I had to have another round of a different antibiotic ( which made me sick to my stomach….. How long a flight is it would also be a consideration….. let us know Loraine

Unless it’s a strep type infection then antibiotics will not be any help. They don’t work on flu/colds because they’re viral rather than bacterial

Right, spoke to BA, they state that’s it’s not a very good idea if I still have it 24hrs prior to flight..
They then also added I don’t get a refund…

No, I would say that flight is a no-go. Not only do you have the current infection you’re also gonna be susceptible to any and all infections & bugs circulating about. So while the thought of you being frisked & harassed by the TSA is providing endless amounts of amusement, I’m thinking this one is not a good idea.

I saw this this morning and I spoke to my mother about how even the toughest and bravest among us carry in our hearts this pain of heart- when losing a son before yourself . I can only tell you it is so painful there are times you think your heart will explode within your body – I can well believe this wonderfully brave soldier who would have taken on any terror and terroist was brought down by a terror called grief…. it is silent it is choking and sucks the very essence of life from you .

Yeah, I hate all this crap about “oh the kids have no hope or future blah bblah boo-hoo”…
What do they know? Typically the politicians suddenly need to have a label for it all…
The reality (as we all know) is the lack of discipline starting at home and runing through school and a legal system with no teeth.
Parents can’t banish a kid to a their room, can’t hit them (apparently), schools aren’t allowed to do squat – so there’s no one to stop them doing anything…

It was Dr James Dobson who made the most sense to me, he said never raise your hand to a child – unless they directly challenge your authority, then never back down… Do what you need to with calm action and within reason…
It’s the pack instinct, it’s nature and when we screw with that, society fails!

Oh yeah, loving the new phone’s battery life, still working on setting it up but to be honest I haven’t even begun to touch on what all it can do. One thing that was omitted here, according to an article on cnet you can never truly wipe the iphone’s memory clean of your personal info. A determined hacker can still access that even when a “restore to factory settings” is done. Scary stuff and it’s making me question whether or not to pursue my original plan of ebaying it.

I have been watching the unfolding story – having written for the print media – I know how to “influence an article” and still be accurate – two newspapers in this small community – two editorial directions – same story but the way it is written, the emphasis- the quotes used ( all accurate) but where they are placed and the fact they are for most part answers to a reporters questions but those “questions” are not usually printed there are times you would think you are reading two different stories and then there is the “back story” sigh……….

Dave, he most certainly did! If fact they sold plans/parts etc so you could self build. From my understanding there is around 20 or more of them flying somewhere in the world to date.

I have had to slightly amend the post due to more accurate information from Phil. Much of the information I had was from childhood memories.

Hammy, I do carry pepper spray and I have a stun gun (but I prolly need to check the batteries) but if you’re volunteering to be my guard dog, I can clear off the passenger seat . You do have to share crate space with Elsie though, lol.

Fenny, I really try not to get close enough to use the pepper spray much less go all kung-fu on their family “jewels”…………..and some of my co-workers are just as bad.

Culturally we are different and we should be really, it does create a nation identity.
I obviously picked on the odd cliché regarding the US which is obviously unfair. But it just seems weird for a president to come here, give an amazing speech then go and side with Argentina.

The one phrase I do hate as it sounds so pathetic and childish is “Special Relationship”… we are originally of the same!! that is why we are permanently linked. But until we have greater freedom of movement, work, visas and other things between our two countries then there will always be a barrier that will never truly allow us to find the cultural middle ground – something that needs to be done!
Not only this, but we are all of a great global citizenship through the internet and social media interfaces – these aren’t even taken into account and are breaking down out national barriers in a good way – while I write this, I’m getting a huge Idea for identity,security and an online international visa system…

The constant UK media cooing of Obama is irritating – he can do wrong and in this instance – badly…

As for the rest, yourself, Gabby, Eric, Dave(Big Dog) Rog, and so many others over there are people whom I like and respect – it’s simply one man, not a nation and that was also my point. A nation and a people are one thing – Foreign Policy? often another entirely.

When I went to Bletchley Park I was saddened by how little there was, but what there was very interesting and complicated.
But then there were things that were so out of place and while interesting, they were completely wrong for what this place was!
When I come back to the UK in a couple of years I’d like to visit again to see if they’ve changed and improved things.
I am also shocked at the lack of focus by tech companies, it’s wrong!!

When I was a student (long ago in a galaxy far, far away) I went to a milk round interview day and stunned one of the civil servant suits because I knew what an Enigma machine was. I’d seen it on a documentary some years before.

I went to Bletchley Park a few years ago and our guide on the tour had worked there during the war. Mum and I were fascinated by her personal anecdotes of life there and the oddities of the people who worked there. These were all things that they’d kept secret for more than 40 years, having been told not to tell anyone about what went on there.

I went back last year and, while I was happy to see that some things had been restored and improved, I was saddened that the money needed to make the place into what it could be just isnt their. I’d happily donate more, but I also want to see Bletchley Park properly recognised for what the war time workforce achieved there. ~~At least they knew how to use apostrophes!~~

What kinda of figures are you looking at over what period?
Are you going with bespoke web design?
Not sure what the UK equivalent is, but depending on the quality, it can be a considerable sum!
I can see this blog easily becoming not only a website, but a popular one. It will depend heavily on your target audience and how effective your advertising or sponsorship will be.
You can do it on the cheap, but it’ll look cheap and your blog doesn’t look that way.

Oooh that is so sexist, can’t believe you blokes to be like that!! lol

I love my Macbook, and my brick like ipod. (4th gen are much better with Wolfson DAC chips, that oooze quality rather than the newer ones with cheaper DAC’s!!)

As for the iphone and ipad, there are much better alternatives now. The Android phones are far better.

Plus Apple’s policy to put a brick wall round it’s users and making things more restrictive, makes me sad. Their products cost a huge amount of money, but the fans of their products are still out there.

Totally agree with said piece, most of the non-progress is usually down to lack of funds to tackle such a project. (Or more important who is responsible for taken on such a huge task, and then getting the blame if they didn’t do it right!)

I still find it amazing in 2010, that rural areas still are way behind most cities. Some have little or no mobile reception!! (or 3G for that matter) Broadband is less than 512mb, if you can get it. Very few are now only getting broadband, and some people i know of are still on dial-up!!

Even in the cities we are still laughable compared to the rest of the world for data speed / communication progression.

I’ll stop rambling now!! lol

Well the organisers can say all they like, but for the innocent people hurt, then that responsibility lays firmly at the feet of the organizers.
What do people think is going to happen when to try to argue, throw things and fight with riot police?

I can’t believe the royal protection team did not open fire!!

I too will be there to support the police if they need it!
But the students went too far, they have no right to claim and then destroy once democracy has taken place. They think they have some god given right to something they don’t!!
If the police don’t have CS, Baton rounds, water canon and B’bag rounds in the next one, i’ll be there alright, to lend some muscle!
Every single person I know are totally 100% against the students now!!

Oh dear well I wass thinking of you as I sat in the dentist chair……. now here is the funny bit HAHA I go regulary and have had dentists from the UK ( errrrrg) Canada another ergggggg and US, but due to the situation I found myself in ion the last three years I didn’t go but having English teeth that was a big mistake I am now faced with to get “everything sorted out a few surgeries, a few more root canals and crows and a 20,000 dollars bill each root canal and crow around 1,500 and seems all the UK work is now breaking down SIGH>>>>>>>>> get those teeth seen to TWB whilst the phone isn’t ringing …… take it from one who is driving the slippery slope of “dentures are looking good”…….

Yes… tough old angle to reverse from too you know… 45ft of steel, aluminum, tail-lift and fridge to the value of around £80,000 to £100k(trailers are not cheap). Albeit, I doubt anyone would notice if I’d reversed that one into a river and left it there for month!
It is of course, dead easy and I know for a fact WKD can park a trailer better than me and she’s gurl!

That is exactly what I think, but you try to ignore it as much as possible and enjoy the challenge!
WKD has done what she does since the invention of the internal combustion engine and that’s experience!!
New comers slow the process down considerably and this stuff isn’t for the faint hearted! There are some ex-farm drivers who really do batter these trucks down the lanes taking out trees, hedges, mammals, street signs, telephone poles, powerlines and when the can’t knock enough off the vehicle’s protruding items like mirrors etc, they blow the tyres off and start reshaping the entire truck (or stick it in a ditch or river). When they have done this enough to feel awake in a morning they even consider picking up some milk.
WKD on the other hand, is a dab-hand at truck repair and likes to finish her day with minimal stress, and some days she actually achieves this, yet remains jolly as hell on an icecube… (grrr!) lol.

Working as Steve Jobs PR? – yes, I think I could do a great job of that… After all, for someone who made billions selling sh*t, he needs all the PR he can get
