Yep, let T W Brit sound almost sentimental for a post – shock…
Today I received my first invite for Christmas to Dave and Annie’s across the road. This was very nice
of them indeed, but for many reasons I like to spend this day alone – it’s nothing weird and I often need to feel a part of something greater to indulge – as such I work through Christmas day. But do I miss it? Well I guess I do a little.
This last few months have been amazing for me, you see, through this and other mediums, the people I have met and continued to communicate with have, for the most part, been people who at one level or another blown my socks off. These people have been from all walks of life too; Truckers, Journalists, Politicians, Actors, Lawyers (in a good way), even the odd celeb apparently (sorry, it’s an area for which I’m very vague). But the people I have and do speak to on a regular basis is something that has astonished me and I am most grateful.
As such there most certainly are things I miss – as we all do (and not in a sorry for myself way – it’s in a ‘just the way it is’ way).
So, while stagnating down here in Devon, here’s my list of things I miss – as bizarre as they may be and excluding individuals.
- The Peak District
- Owning and using a Land Rover 110 CSW
- My Irish Setter
- The stillness of a summers morning in some remote military training area.
- Arriving in a foreign town and simply not knowing what and where everything thing is, but having to find out quickly.
- Volatile risk in countries where life is so different to the lives we all know so well.
- Stark differences in cultures of those around you and learning the differences.
- The hustle and bustle of London
- I miss shooting a lot!! If I stayed in one place long enough, I guess I’d get a licence, but I never do.
- The silence at dawn in the ‘Empty Quarter’ desert in Saudi Arabia.
- Having a true reason or aim to get up sometimes.
- Fixing impossible problems
- Climbing
- The better side of me.
- An awesome roast dinner
- Air travel, I don’t like it (because I’m not the driver), but it always means I’m doing something cool.
- Seeing myself as clearly as I see others
- Huge Dr Who scarf my grandmother knitted me
- Long hair
- Being able to run 10 miles with weight
- A good Dentist
- Eastnor Castle
- Meeting people without them thinking you either want something or they feel they have to match-make me with a friend of theirs.
- Being sincere, actually I am, but my body language often says the opposite.
- Tax free living
- Ex-Pat lifestyle
So here’s the question to my regular readers, you get 10 things to list that you miss – that cannot be people.

Just thinking about things I miss. Had a quick look at Zara Phillips horse box, and I miss not having a horse of my own. Not in the same league as Zaras though. I was really impressed when she got a round of applause when reversing out of the barn, I have also been clapped at by folk for my reversing skills!!
I haven’t been clapped for reversing, I’ve been shouted and laughed at
I find reversing very frustrating
1. Working at the college
2. Going out with my friends every week.
3. I was going to say long flat boots, but they’re already back in fashion!
4. Clubbing
5. My iPod
6. Summer
7. Mums cooking
8. I can’t think of anything else
I miss my mum not doing my packed lunch for me, I never knew what she was going to put so it was always a nice suprise.
WKD, then get one! – but it’s probably either the horse or the chickens because I hardly think there’s enough hours in the day already with the stuff you do LOL.
But then, I thought you’d had enough of the 4×4 leg-ged car thing.
I just wouldnt have time to care for one properly, I will stick to those chickens for now.
Hubby cant understand why anyone would want to ride a horse now engines have been invented!!!
Oh wow, you had your own horse? I’ve never been on one, they sort of scared me a little. But I used to want to ride so much when I was younger. I also like the look and everything, but I guess that’s me being girlie as TWB would accuse me!
I just watched that Zara video too, is that house part inside that big truck?
Horses are great, they have a lovely smell!! But they are just such alot of work, and quite expensive too. I think most little girls wanted to ride a pony but I havent grown out of it yet.
They live in the house part of the horsebox when they are away at events, its relly smart isnt it.
Yer know, I really don’t think I own enough sharp objects and living on the ground floor is a real obstacle at times
I love Trucks aswell as ponies!!
LOL twB! (hee hee)
WKD, do you really love trucks?
I dont really love them but I do enjoy pottering round the country lanes in one.
It’s when she combines the two in the same proximity that my concern is raised.
But, I think it’s an expensive way, just so WKD can justify the carrying of a crop in her bag along with her farmers nails and bondage tape.
And the day I see WKD with a crop, will be probably be the last day I see her… LOL
Right, behave – I’m off to do some chef-ing (probably toast). Actually, before Gabby or LT turn up and make this all so much worse lol
I only carry a crop for my own protection!
TWB we must have trained at the same chef school, I just had toast.
See you soon
TWB you just leave this to us
What do you mean about proximy thing with horse and trucks?
WKD, do you think he misses a lot? that is a big list!
It is indeed a big list. Your list is quite big too, I am going to think about things tomorrow. got to go now. Bye
G’nite WKD
I miss winning the lottery, it seems to haunt me every single week too.
Continued
8. I missed my cropped leather jacket! There are loads of fashion things I miss really.
9. sometimes I miss being single if only to enjoy the reactions in flirting with the guys and not feeling like I’m being stabbed in the lower back half the night.
10. I miss hanging with you and Andy Mack, you’re both like old drunk guys, but fun.
WKD, thats my 10, now you
Corr, I haven’t seen Andy or his family for years now! They moved up to Ely a few years back.
I get WKD’s thing about her mums packed lunches, but I’m guessing she’s possibly a bit of a hoarder (the the borrowers) and is unlikely to be missing things as she still has them.
So was nagged into finally completing my list. Anybody else think that TWB is secretly (or not so secretly) compiling dossiers on the lot of us, lol
Things I miss
1. College–not the partying/social scene because i was already in my mid 20s and over that but the interaction of the classes, debating, occasionally one upping the instructor. I however do not miss writing papers one iota, lol
2. The flat belly i had in my early to late 20s…..
3. Hanging out in our friend’s tattoo shop when he was still located in Denton, tx…the smell of the green soap and buzzing needles
3. The joy of shopping for a cute outfit
4. My freedom–not from marriage, I’m ok with being accountable to James– but having to be within a phone calls reach of his mother just wears on my nerves. And Elsie the dog to some extent, I can no longer take off whenever and for however long I want
5. My 1971 Chevelle Malibu
6. Having a non-bumpy right clavicle
7. Driving a Peterbilt
8. Time to read
9. Working for a small company that was well-respected in the industry, where I knew everyone and actually wanted to know them, lol.
10. Being surrounded by music 24/7
Mwahahahahah!!! and tomorrow…. I take over the world.
1971 Chevelle Malibu?! that thing was a tank!
Flat belly – you and the rest of the known world!
Nice one, thankyou!
Do not malign my Malibu!!! Yes, it was a tank but a 2 door tank (not the 4 door version most people associate with the malibus) and had a 350 V8 that left most people who dared challenge me at a red light way behind. Beautiful car and I wish I hadn’t sold her
. If I ever get a scanner I’ll post a pic of it.
My old RangeRover was a 3.5 V8 and that sucker was a tank!!
Hello, I have been summoned by twb to try a little harder with the things I miss:
1. The days when I could put all my dirty washing next to the machine and like a miracle the next day it would all be clean and folded up in my room.
2. My mum (again) making my packed lunch.
3. Not having time to keep a horse.
4. No resposibilities, just being able to take off anywhere for a new job just cos I felt like it.
5. Being able to go out partying all night and not taking at least a week to get over it.
6. Kindly lending my dad my car when it was nearly out of petrol.he he. I wouldnt let him drive it now.
7. My mum (again) before she had a stroke, she is still fab and jolly, but it just aint the same.
8. Molly the dog
9. Getting on an aeroplane without having a panic attack.
10. Getting up in the morning without part of me aching or creaking.
Thankyou WKD, though I’m gobsmacked at this still partying all night stuff (even if you do suffer – wonderful!) because you come across like butter would melt in your mouth at work LOL
Oh now I feel really bad for your mum. Is she ok? Why do you ache a creak? TWB said you’re young that him, which most people are!!
TWB doesn’t like my mum very much, I’m not sure if he like his own mum either!
Oh she does look younger to (at a distance) and may look even more so after her pampering over the next few days.
JK, you’re never on here at this time, whats going on?
My mum is okay, she has lost the use of all her right hand side, she is an artist and has got back into her work now and paints with her left hand. She is a very determined lady. Thanks for asking.
I think I ache and creak so much cos I fell off, was pushed over and kicked by so many bloody horses.
No way am I anywhere near as old as twb, thats like impossible!!
I am off now be back next week, have fun.
F’kin OY!!! lol
ha ha, I really am laughing. Nice return WKD!
TWB, shut up you deserved that. Oh he’s gone for a night out in London.
It’s only 6 years or was it 8, oh I can’t remember. Look I’m just a little more weather and my face is somewhat lived in lol
Lived in lol lol lol, yeah! by one of WKD’s kicking horses!
WKD, wow! thats amazing, I could use my other hand to write with for anything!
JK, the question is that if WKD got a new horse – would she give up the quadbike for whizzing about the farm?
WKD you ride a quad bike too? aren’t they dangerous or something.
Look like I am the last in line…
Hmmmm, I was taught at an early age to not get too attached to anything, so I dont. Not things, not places, not people….sigh…
So, I guess if I had to think of something that I miss, it would no doubt be my sanity. Oh and a dog!!
Seriously, with the last move I made, I gave up every bit of solitude I had (not the same, being alone in a truck)…I gave up soaks in the tub, I gave up outrageously loud music in the wee morning hours. I am now subject to a routine that is dictated by someone else, and I just dont like it!! Look for me to get back to being me real soon…and then all I will miss is the dog!!
