People who know me know that for as long as they have known me – I’ve wished to own a Marshall Amplifier. It’s not as though I can’t afford one because I can, so what is the problem? The thing is this – which one? I can not find a shop with every single one they make to compare them. Further to this, I live a somewhat nomadic lifestyle, so what would be great at this location will be too big or too small at my next place and so on. In 2000 I was lucky enough to be invited to the Marshall factory and finally in 2006 I went along to Bletchley and had a good look for myself. For such a small place you wouldn’t believe the impact Marshall have had globally on every genre of music you can think of. Corridors are lined with photographs of every band and artist you’ve heard of and in many cases have already forgotten. The staff are all enthusiasts too and guitars often sit next to desks (somewhat like my working environment). Everyone is always keen to talk and are amazingly helpful (unlike many retailers). It’s not like the other thing I covert and wish to own; the Taylor K 22ce acoustic guitar.
The Problem with this guitar which is made of the finest Koa (a wood that only grows in Hawaii above 5000ft and is also protected…… It cannot actually be cut down – yep they have to wait for a tree to fall down). The TK22CE is not cheap, it has a price tag of £3500 to £3999 in the UK and twice I have sat in a shop playing one with the money to buy it – but didn’t. The problem is this – I simply do not believe my playing standard is good enough to complement the instrument.Marshall on the other hand compliments any and all playing styles (even that of Dave Bones lol) and until I finally settle somewhere, I doubt I will ever own one.
UPDATE:
I now own a Marshal LOL

ha ha I can’t stand Marshalls. I’ve bought and sold Laneys, Boogies etc over the years. The only amp I have kept is called a “Box”. Its 30 watts and I bought it for a tenner when I was 16.
hang on, i just worked out who this is. I thought you were another “anonymous” who comments on my blog from time to time
Yep, it’s me……lol
One of the few bloggers to be able to comment on your playing style.
